I started by painting a layer of turquoise over the whole canvas, then a second loose layer of white in some areas. I knew that I was going to use the circle monoprint cut in half, and my color palette was derived from the monoprint colors. The look of the circle cut in half was very appealing to me, and worked well with the composition I had in mind. The green was painted next using similar shapes but different from each other. To finish up the piece, I applied black paint and collage, and the final element was some stenciling in pink. </div>Marcias’s Art Stuffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12135097038619083016noreply@blogger.com086JJCF9J+9F42.4184483 -87.518874214.289307262465069 -122.6751242 70.54758933753493 -52.3626242tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701651113265992098.post-45141828295944453342023-11-13T11:59:00.000-08:002024-03-11T13:36:09.723-07:00Sketchbook page 11/11/23<p> My husband and I belong to a book series fan club called The Royal Manticoran Navy. We decided to invite the neighbor children over to paint on the patio with us, and being the avid Book Arts fan that I am, I rapidly created a blank book for each child to paint as they wished. I loaded some foam plates with dabs of acrylic paint, and let them go to town. When the kids lost interest after about an hour, I cleaned up the mess, but noticed an incredible amount of paint was left on the plates. Not one to waste art supplies, I grabbed several sheets from a watercolor paper pad and proceeded to paint each one with the leftover colors. The weather was cooperating, and the sheets of paper dried quickly enough to turn them over and paint the other sides. Here are a few of the pages of my soon to be new journal titled "Leftover Paint".</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEaMcLAag76FyFkliTY7dMJbAanizhYXBMwyF8LuZDh3EApH988fpeIUMvyfnONvbPDee3lG3zEYL48mB_V7ip14AATRmLp34VqWvARSRnk1x8A-uS_E-rHhvWF_0wjcBoPsUPo_2Md12STwglOgeWsT0NNRTEL0fEmHcdNw0pA49AvVnX7pNBeNQQDshs/s4032/LeftoverPaint;BookArts;Acrylic;10x7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEaMcLAag76FyFkliTY7dMJbAanizhYXBMwyF8LuZDh3EApH988fpeIUMvyfnONvbPDee3lG3zEYL48mB_V7ip14AATRmLp34VqWvARSRnk1x8A-uS_E-rHhvWF_0wjcBoPsUPo_2Md12STwglOgeWsT0NNRTEL0fEmHcdNw0pA49AvVnX7pNBeNQQDshs/s320/LeftoverPaint;BookArts;Acrylic;10x7.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQhDdx_FfsKHyw0BCXkEheYeleaivriRePtnL1hcotW3D2Hj31VA7jBh8Q4xLZN_Sn6rPi-lRqR2x4PV1Mpr5HAjBrhgwL5qbyRKtdASe376zEMeNcK0axe-RPfnAbszmCStRVOz9DeF4Xze4nrd30db_YbdIk6nuo5B4B5zQ-LMHVIXJerNiNHfwZuKbw/s4032/LeftoverPaint3;BookArts;Acrylic;10x7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQhDdx_FfsKHyw0BCXkEheYeleaivriRePtnL1hcotW3D2Hj31VA7jBh8Q4xLZN_Sn6rPi-lRqR2x4PV1Mpr5HAjBrhgwL5qbyRKtdASe376zEMeNcK0axe-RPfnAbszmCStRVOz9DeF4Xze4nrd30db_YbdIk6nuo5B4B5zQ-LMHVIXJerNiNHfwZuKbw/s320/LeftoverPaint3;BookArts;Acrylic;10x7.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe7aXYONXAuPLgGD15S4q23iyu8laBdSMLm09V_FyyZ7U6-pW0w6sDTuemqp6JhiYV0RDelN8mWB3j2sZvQJLhys6XRaRf3nDxIv2QGsNF5qT45GQODQYdAyevfXZZJJZLYAWEBdfCFGRGnZOLeNEpHcDC9BnNd1NBljLbuKgB0hSbgX_KtCJevnReweiG/s4032/LeftoverPaintpg2;BookArts;Acrylic;10x7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe7aXYONXAuPLgGD15S4q23iyu8laBdSMLm09V_FyyZ7U6-pW0w6sDTuemqp6JhiYV0RDelN8mWB3j2sZvQJLhys6XRaRf3nDxIv2QGsNF5qT45GQODQYdAyevfXZZJJZLYAWEBdfCFGRGnZOLeNEpHcDC9BnNd1NBljLbuKgB0hSbgX_KtCJevnReweiG/s320/LeftoverPaintpg2;BookArts;Acrylic;10x7.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Marcias’s Art Stuffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12135097038619083016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701651113265992098.post-87352591017492660202023-07-30T09:05:00.022-07:002023-07-30T09:20:17.916-07:00A New Art Journal<p> Back in March, I started a new art journal, with the plan to continue it during my trip to Europe with my husband, Chuck. Well, I completed a few pages in the lounge of the ship during "down time", but didn't quite finish the pages until yesterday. It turned out to be a Very Eclectic Journal, with some watercolors florals, some leaf prints on fabric, and several abstract collages. Here are pics of a few pages. 8x8 on 140lb watercolor paper.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiymsXSQs5Y3fU-Gyd-_-wly9VXk3jj6Sg1YDvpaCOtvEPZR-ASl7JYJ3OqqV9a_Yy14qEb-t2RcMcqMgfjCcp-M-raeVPFy-HvM5RMaenZjwg3DEmaCtC-PYMmI56Y7PnjyI2XtVHscxXRBbeoBylw6rBkTdjF2GCphINA8eJemIc08SaUjcLW5GZApDCk/s3919/HimalayanPoppies,EclecticJournal,8x8,2023.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2050" data-original-width="3919" height="167" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiymsXSQs5Y3fU-Gyd-_-wly9VXk3jj6Sg1YDvpaCOtvEPZR-ASl7JYJ3OqqV9a_Yy14qEb-t2RcMcqMgfjCcp-M-raeVPFy-HvM5RMaenZjwg3DEmaCtC-PYMmI56Y7PnjyI2XtVHscxXRBbeoBylw6rBkTdjF2GCphINA8eJemIc08SaUjcLW5GZApDCk/s320/HimalayanPoppies,EclecticJournal,8x8,2023.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTRRhpdLSWmK8F4mBof8DtF6v20y-U74CDZ3rxpUu6g4egjqAECKM346uvlpu9Ml-tv-8y8MKw8TwAURVRZ-5V1brWajFolQvrBGPe0rO_OUYoYGo3c7rY_3At9azRoW7Nj5pZr1ncSIHxVrtaPa8rkc3kupMKMNsKmH-qkPEyb5F8lVmeG-JfVkEsCpYM/s2998/AbstractCollage,EclecticJournal,%208x8,%202023.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2998" data-original-width="2985" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTRRhpdLSWmK8F4mBof8DtF6v20y-U74CDZ3rxpUu6g4egjqAECKM346uvlpu9Ml-tv-8y8MKw8TwAURVRZ-5V1brWajFolQvrBGPe0rO_OUYoYGo3c7rY_3At9azRoW7Nj5pZr1ncSIHxVrtaPa8rkc3kupMKMNsKmH-qkPEyb5F8lVmeG-JfVkEsCpYM/s320/AbstractCollage,EclecticJournal,%208x8,%202023.jpg" width="319" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLCs1UAc7K-Kmn8lrq1ZULgxGTOz1P4F1h39SK0hAKZ0vtJjkK_EPwo4x7Sdc-1-6o_uqMGTmhii6dO2ud-MlBIo9Thrb-guuyiTurv1VwclPBvAkspQ8Q9ZGmzQmrXj082eg2r6s1Pn4YDupO3rRZlkyOOBdyB5x9gnCAMUGtd7_FYN_9zLX8N1dohPN/s2993/RomanRoad,EclecticJournal,8x8,2023.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2993" data-original-width="2983" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhLCs1UAc7K-Kmn8lrq1ZULgxGTOz1P4F1h39SK0hAKZ0vtJjkK_EPwo4x7Sdc-1-6o_uqMGTmhii6dO2ud-MlBIo9Thrb-guuyiTurv1VwclPBvAkspQ8Q9ZGmzQmrXj082eg2r6s1Pn4YDupO3rRZlkyOOBdyB5x9gnCAMUGtd7_FYN_9zLX8N1dohPN/s320/RomanRoad,EclecticJournal,8x8,2023.jpg" width="319" /></a></div><br /><p></p>Marcias’s Art Stuffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12135097038619083016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701651113265992098.post-50431905878059465442023-04-15T13:39:00.000-07:002023-04-15T13:44:27.729-07:00Art Journal "Sequences" Lately, I've been working/painting/creating like there's no tomorrow. I have a gallery exhibition at Gallery 2622 along with the other Martini Girls, and it opens in June. We have all painted in our favorite media, and the paintings will make for a very cohesive show. <div><br /></div><div>The plans for making more of my Art Journal creations are coming along nicely. These are small, 5x7 on 140 lb watercolor paper. They are given a thin coat of Dorland's Wax medium to seal them, and then buffed to a light satin finish. I usually paint some of these when I travel to visit friends. These 2 in particular, I painted at my friend Joanna's house in March, while visiting her to keep her company after her husband passed unexpectedly. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have other watercolors like these at the Boerner Botanical Gardens Gift Shop. My summer was filled with painting, book arts, and mixed media. When art galleries and businesses started to reopen, I was thrilled! And then the reality of entering 4 spring/summer exhibitions sunk in, as each show takes 3 trips to that particular location. One to drop off the artwork, one to attend the Opening Reception, and one to retrieve the artwork. So Chuck and I decided to make each trip a fun excursion. First, was the Rogues Artists Group show at the Beloit Art Center, the 2nd was the WVA Artists Showcase at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, the 3rd was the Rogues Artists Group exhibition “Music to My Eyes” at the Jack Richeson & Co in Kimberly, WI, and the 4th was the WVA “Transitions” show at the Anderson Art Center in Kenosha. And let’s not leave out our 9th Annual Martini Girls Collaborative exhibition “Not So Much” currently at the Art Bar!</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y5lruZV24K8/YT_rz0gQtAI/AAAAAAAAA6c/14g31Y3FxU07bkFYPeT4t9gq4mPFZi7_QCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/4A0FD669-8E9A-4748-AC5C-9215DD2D15BF.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="background: transparent; color: #2196f3; display: inline-block; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-decoration-line: none;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y5lruZV24K8/YT_rz0gQtAI/AAAAAAAAA6c/14g31Y3FxU07bkFYPeT4t9gq4mPFZi7_QCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/4A0FD669-8E9A-4748-AC5C-9215DD2D15BF.jpeg" style="border: 0px; height: inherit; max-width: 100%;" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mQFfDLcjZe8/YT_r0AQFwkI/AAAAAAAAA6g/OiqpriS1yRwn9H3vOIoPB_lrgnxo7NM-ACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/4B51C391-809B-410C-B80B-0219FD8D3730.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="background: transparent; color: #2196f3; display: inline-block; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-decoration-line: none;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2041" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mQFfDLcjZe8/YT_r0AQFwkI/AAAAAAAAA6g/OiqpriS1yRwn9H3vOIoPB_lrgnxo7NM-ACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/4B51C391-809B-410C-B80B-0219FD8D3730.jpeg" style="border: 0px; height: inherit; max-width: 100%;" width="319" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kgF--rxL4ps/YT_rzmq2_dI/AAAAAAAAA6Y/1mTg5IaeeQAxbLKT0MNBSgQMMni7Vi6QQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/45F3280C-F2D5-4744-B5FE-1B91CE7ADB35.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="background: transparent; color: #2196f3; display: inline-block; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-decoration-line: none;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1598" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kgF--rxL4ps/YT_rzmq2_dI/AAAAAAAAA6Y/1mTg5IaeeQAxbLKT0MNBSgQMMni7Vi6QQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/45F3280C-F2D5-4744-B5FE-1B91CE7ADB35.jpeg" style="border: 0px; height: inherit; max-width: 100%;" width="250" /></a></div></div>Marcias’s Art Stuffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12135097038619083016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701651113265992098.post-48108005811319295552017-08-09T10:13:00.000-07:002017-08-09T10:13:05.042-07:00Playing Catch Up with artworkI had stopped painting for awhile after signing up on the DailyPaintworks website. Maybe I was just uninspired or was more interested in making art journals and embellishments, but whatever the reason, I was in a painters slump. So now it's time for catch-up. I visited a friend of mine who has a summer home in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, and we watched a couple of paintings videos by Bob Burridge. That was enough to get the desire to paint burning again. Here are some of my new paintings which can be purchased at: http://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/marcia-hero-7154/artwork<br />

They reliably come up in May around these parts, and explode in fronds of dangling heart shaped loveliness. My granddaughter once picked every single heart off of my plant, but I didn't care, and wouldn't you know it, the plant rebloomed with more vigor! <br />

Add a rainbow to that, and well, life is really good. That's how I feel again, when I look at this painting--happy, grateful, and fulfilled.<br />

The first time I visited her, I was blown away by the beauty of the desert and mountains, and the colors that don't seem to be naturally occurring in nature, in Wisconsin.<br />

In my attempt to capture the delicacy of the flower petals, and the varied color striations, I may have gone overboard with my favorite color, magenta, but somehow, I don't think that's possible!<br />

Their petals are so loose and flutter so beautifully in the slightest breeze. My garden has one Poppy plant, which was there when I moved in, and although they don't bloom for long, I take advantage of every bloom season by taking some new photos of the flowers. <br />
Orange Poppy, acrylic on canvas, 8x8, $50 includes shipping in the continental U.S. Ready to hang.<br />

This one was turned just right, with the light coming in from the left. Painting it was really fun, as I had to lighten up some of the dark, almost purple/black color. 7x5, acrylic on canvas board, $40 including shipping in the continental U.S.<br />

So I figured that is a good idea, and I purchased Carol Marine's book, which gives some very useful info and and tips on how to market and sell on-line. This little artistic gem, Zebrina Malva, is painted in acrylic on canvas board, 5x7, and is ready to hang. <br />

Starting September 1, 2016, I will be posting new daily (or at least weekly), paintings on my blog , with a link to purchase. They will also be posted on FaceBook, and some other popular social media websites. Hope that you'll enjoy them!Marcias’s Art Stuffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12135097038619083016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701651113265992098.post-45823154916878401222016-04-28T13:24:00.000-07:002016-04-28T13:24:14.446-07:00Tulips and Poppies<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I am pretty passionate about it, so much so, that the Martini Girls, Marcia Hochstetter, Debbie Callahan, and I started an "Art Journal Wednesday" club at The Martini Girls Gallery at 6909 W, North Avenue, Wauwatosa, WI. We meet most Wednesday evenings to doodle, paint, collage, stencil, stamp, and do whatever we want to in our art journals, or just work on other art projects. Needless to say, we really enjoy getting together. The sessions are inspiring and motivating. <br />
<br />
Happy Arting!!! <br />

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;">Sometimes I look at the
totality, so far, of my life and it seems that I have lived several lives.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;">My childhood with my mother
and father and 4 siblings up until the day my father died of a stroke at age
54.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We camped in Michigan’s upper
peninsula every summer for 3 to 4 weeks.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Sometimes we split that time between 2 campgrounds, and sometimes we
just stayed at one the whole time.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Of
course, before we got to the campground every year, we had to stop at Mareth’s
farm in Coleman, WI to pick up the camper.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>That’s where we<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>had to store it
year ‘round, as we didn’t have a garage, or parking slab, or even a big enough
yard.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Mareth’s farm held infinite
adventures for us city kids.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We got to
milk cows, feed chickens, dig potatoes, and pick blackberries.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Mrs. Mareth would get the wood fired stove
started early, while Mr. Mareth milked the cows by hand, many times with help
from my older siblings. Mrs. Mareth cooked the most wonderful breakfasts for
us, with homemade bread and fresh eggs, but what I remember most of all, were
the blackberries she put up in canning jars.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>She would bring them up from the root cellar, and dish them out into
small bowls.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They were dark, and surrounded
by their sweetened juice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Then she would
pour fresh cream over them. It was probably the best thing I’ve ever eaten in
my life.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;">My father died when I was
13.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We stopped going camping.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We stopped taking vacations altogether.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It seemed like life had become dreary, and
well, lifeless.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My mother still worked
for the county, and when she took her vacation days, she stayed at home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My father had been the social parent; the
planner, the doer, the fun lover.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A few
of us inherited some of his traits, but we were too young to realize it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My mother was practical, and together they
made a good team, but without him, there were no more Sunday picnics, and no more
vacations.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;">When I was 20, I married a
man from El Salvador, Central America.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>We met at a college party, and it truly was love at first site.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This began a chapter of my life, which in
comparison to my friends at the time, was quite adventurous.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I married Jose and we moved from my home in
Milwaukee, to Monterrey, Mexico. My outlook at this move was that it would be a
great adventure, and I was not disappointed.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

Some recent journal pages. I've been a neglectful blogger. I seem to go through periods of just wanting to play in my journals, and at the same time, feel guilty that I'm not spending time painting "fine art". I'm not sure if there's a good balance. However, recently we started offering "Art Journal Wednesdays" at the Martini Girls Gallery every other week. It's really fun to get together and work on journaling with the other girls. So far, besides the 3 of us who are the Gallery owners, Michelle Bohlmann, Kathy Welsch, Cheri Staub, and Anita Burgermeister have joined us.Marcias’s Art Stuffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12135097038619083016noreply@blogger.com0
