My sister is lucky to be living just outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico, which is a place I consider an artist's dream location. The first time I visited her, I was blown away by the beauty of the desert and mountains, and the colors that don't seem to be naturally occurring in nature, in Wisconsin.

Profusion Zinnia
My garden is always an inspiration for my paintings, and painting individual flowers is particularly fun. This cherry red Profusion Zinnia is growing in a pot on my back patio. The background comes from the dark foliage of another potted plant.

Wave Petunias, Daily Painting
This painting was completed in Acrylic on canvas board during the Artists in the Garden plein air event at the Boerner Botanical Gardens in August. In my attempt to capture the delicacy of the flower petals, and the varied color striations, I may have gone overboard with my favorite color, magenta, but somehow, I don't think that's possible!

Orange Poppy Daily Painting 3
I love the shapes of Poppy flowers. Their petals are so loose and flutter so beautifully in the slightest breeze. My garden has one Poppy plant, which was there when I moved in, and although they don't bloom for long, I take advantage of every bloom season by taking some new photos of the flowers.

Dark Hollyhock Daily Painting 2
I had a wonderful time shooting photos of my hollyhocks recently. This one was turned just right, with the light coming in from the left. Painting it was really fun, as I had to lighten up some of the dark, almost purple/black color. 7x5, acrylic on canvas board, $40 including shipping in the continental U.S.
Zebrina Malva Daily Painting #1
Recently, a good, friend of mine started a "daily painting" process, in which he paints a small canvas every day, or nearly every day, then posts them on-line to sell. So I figured that is a good idea, and I purchased Carol Marine's book, which gives some very useful info and and tips on how to market and sell on-line. This little artistic gem, Zebrina Malva, is painted in acrylic on canvas board, 5x7, and is ready to hang.
